THE ART
OF THE LETTER
This programme is a collaboration between PichaTime, an initiative of previous artist member and Nafasi Academy mentor Nicholas Calvin Mwakatobe., and the Nafasi Library, to activate and enliven the space, and help artists and art lovers to ignite their own passion for learning.
Nafasi Art Space is home to an arts resource library with exhibition catalogues, art books, culture magazines and more. This is a space dedicated to artistic learning, research, and knowledge production. But since opening at the Nafasi Academy space in 2020, the Library has been somewhat quiet and underutilized.Â
The first session is set to take place on 5 November, and is called "THE ART OF THE LETTER". The session will bring together artists, writers, and other creatives to reflect on letter-writing, stamps (and the art they showcase), and modes of communication and story-keeping that are perhaps fading away in today's busy, electronic world.
OPEN MIC
LETTER READING
When is the last time you wrote or received a letter?
Like most of us, it has probably been a while.
Some of us probably have a lot of letters tucked away in a drawer or
shoe box. Physical remainders of some of the most pivotal mo-
ments in our lives... or simply of someone taking the time to write
and send a letter you.
The Open Mic Letter Reading session invites you to share some of
these treasured memories with an audience.
If you don’t have a letter, come and listen to people sharing their
moments, probably you can be inspired to write to a loved one. We
will provide a pen and a paper where you will have a chance to
write. If you want to mail it, the representative from the Tanzania
Posts Corporation will be there. You can buy some stamps from
them and they will mail the letter for you.
