Residencies
In 2023, as part of the residency program, artist and filmmaker Nicholas Calvin Mwakatobe listened to recordings from the British Library Sound Archive. These recordings featured two local musicians who were recorded decades ago and have since passed away. Using these archived performances, Nicholas organized meetups and listening sessions with descendants and local community members from the areas where the music was originally collected.
To support Nicholas’s residency project, PichaTime hosted events in both Dar es Salaam and on the island of Zanzibar.
Resonations is an international, online artist residency programme led by the British Library and supported by the British Council. It provides international artists with a unique opportunity to work creatively with the British Library’s sound archive collections, encouraging them to explore the creative potential of sound heritage, develop new ideas, build professional connections, and enhance their digital research skills.
